How to Sew Notions Onto Crochet Fabric- Photo Tutorial

How do you sew notions onto crochet fabric without weaving in tons of ends? In this tutorial I will show you the trick I use, because truth is, ‘ain’t nobody got time for weaving in ends’. haha!

This might seem tedious at first, but I thnk it is way better than individually sewing pieces onto a fabric then weaving all the tails in. Plus the fact that each piece can easily come off.

However, when you use one strand to sew all the pieces it is quite hard to lose any one piece from the fabric. Besides, sewing pieces onto fabric like I did in the Fidget/Sensory Blanket for Alzheimer’s is much safer for patients who may have the tendency of putting things in their mouth.

I also used this technique to sew the parts of the Chunky Tshirt Crochet Tote together. One strand, many uses.

This technique will work well for shorter stitches and even for the Double Crochet depending on how tight your stitches are and the yarn used. Any stitch taller may not pan out well.

You’ll need:

• Yarn, about 60 inches long or less
• tapestry needle
• notions

How To Sew Notions Onto Crochet Fabric- Photo Tutorial

– I would start with a long strand. The size of the project determines how long I’ll make it. You’ll have to go with your intution here, but no less than 25 inches is ideal. I sew on the first notion, then tie the 2 strands together tight.

– I’ll then pass the yarn to the next point I want to sew another notion. You’ll note that I’m passing the yarn at the back of the fabric. I’ll repeat this again for the next notion.

– I want to add a zipper, so I’m checking out where I need to position it. I pass the strand to the point and start sewing.

– Now that I’m done sewing the zipper, I may need to assure myself all notions are securely sewn. I’ll pass my needle through the nearest stitch, pull out the strand (but not completely) leaving a small loop.

– I’ll pass the needle through the loop once or twice and pull the strand all the way out, tightening the cinch. I’ll weave in the tails and snip.

 

– And it’s done! See, I had just 3 tails to weave in as opposed to 13 if I had sewn the notions individually.
