Yes, you made it to part 2! Let’s complete this Short Sleeve Crochet Sweater and wear it ALL DAY LONG! Honest, I have been wearing mine since I made it, just to feel all that cozy softness.

Part 1 of this Short Sleeve Crochet Sweater focused on the front and back pieces, here we focus on assembling the front and back pieces, making the sleeves and collar, and general finishing.

You’ll need

  • 1 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1) ball worsted weight, medium 4 yarn. This pattern uses Premier Yarns Candy Shop, 260yds/233m; 5oz/140g. The number of ball indicated here is part of the overall number of balls you need for the pattern.
  • 5.5 and 5mm hooks
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry Needle

Stitches/Abbreviation:

  • DC- double crochet
  • FPDC- front post double crochet
  • FPSC- front post single crochet
  • BLO- back loop only
  • SL ST- slip stitch
  • CH- chain
  • ST- stitch

Notes:

  • Chain 1 does not count as a stitch
  • All rows in the sleeve are made in Back Loop Only, EXCEPT the ribbing

Short Sleeve Crochet Sweater- Part 2

ARMHOLE & JOINING

With WS of the two pieces facing up, sew shoulder by going from the back loop of the back piece through the front loop of the front piece.

Armhole length– 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5)

With the WS of front piece facing up and WS of back piece facing down, align pieces, measure armholes and place stitch markers through stitches. Sew body together through the last stitch on each row. See photo at bottom of page for guide.

SLEEVES

Tip: make 2 slip stitches per stitch, but do not make them into the same space. Take a look at the photo for guide. 

Round 1: join yarn in bottom of stitch, make 2 slip stitches in each st around.  Mark the last slip stich.

Round 2: in BLO, slip st around and in last st.

Round 3: Ch 1, in BLO, DC in next st till the top or middle of the sleeve, DC2tog, DC to last st. Join to 1st DC. Ch 1, turn

Round 4: skip 1st st, DC in next st till the shoulder or top of the sleeve, DC2tog, DC to last st. Join to 1st DC. Ch 1, turn

Rounds 5- 11(or when the sleeve measures 4.5): try it on to see the length and fitting. Repeat round 4. Ch 1 turn

Round 12: skip 1st st, DC in next st till the shoulder or top of the sleeve, DC2tog, DC to last st. Join to 1st DC. Ch 1, turn 

Round 13: skip 1 st, DC around. Ch 1, turn

Round 14-15: repeat rounds 12 and 13. Ch 1, turn

Round 16: DC around. Ch 1, turn. Sleeve should be about 1 inch to your elbow. If not, repeat round 16 till it is just right.

Round 17: HDC in 1st st, *FPDC around next, HDC in next, repeat from * around

Round 18: Ch 1, repeat round 17. Snip yarn, weave in tails.

COLLAR

Tip: leave stitch markers in place (the corners). As with the sleeve, make two stitches in each stitch, but do not make them in the same space.

Round 1: join yarn in corner st at the back, Ch 3, 2DC in next st and each st till next corner, *2DC in corner, 2DC in each st to next corner. Repeat from * till last corner, DC in last st (same st as ch 3). Join to top of ch 3.

Round 2: Ch 1, HDC in top of ch 3, FPDC around next, HDC in next. Repeat from * around. Join to 1st HDC.

Decrease on the next 2 rows

Round 3: Ch 2, FPDC around next FPDC, *HDC in next, FPDC around next. Repeat * till 1st corner in front,, skip 1 HDC, FPDC around next FPDC. Continue to repeat * till 2nd corner, skip 1HDC, FPDC around FPDC. Repeat * to 3rd corner, skip 1 HDC, FPDC around FPDC. Repeat from * to last st. Join to top of Ch 2.

Round 4: Ch 1, FPDC around next FPDC, *HDC in next, FPDC around next. Repeat * till 1st corner in front,, skip 1 HDC, FPDC around next FPDC. Continue to repeat * till 2nd corner, skip 1HDC, FPDC around FPDC. Repeat * to 3rd corner, skip 1 HDC, FPDC around FPDC. Repeat from * to last st. Join to DC. Snip yarn, weave in tails

with 5mm hook

Round 5: Ch 1, SC in same st, *SC in next, FPSC around next FPDC, repeat from * around (in the places where HDC is skipped, go right ahead and make FPSC in next FPDC). Join to 1st st. Snip yarn, weave in tails.

  1. Pass yarn through bottom of stitches
  2. Pass it back through same stitches
  3. Pass yarn through loops of 1st st on the row
  4. As though you were going back, pass yarn through the body of the stitch itself
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 in the next stitch row
  6. At the last stitch row pass yarn through the tops of the stitches
  7. Pass yarn back through the body of the stitch
  8. Pass yarn through the tops of the stitches again

Repeat all the steps down to the bottom. Snip yarn, weave in tails.
