Don’t you just love the look if this Purple Fringe Boho Purse? I do. A lot of times, I am amazed at how a little tweak or a small addition can have an overall stunning effect on a finished piece.

Seems I am having an affinity for beads lately, . Did you see the Mini Beaded Drawstring Pouch yet?, I used beads on that as well. It is such a cute and unique design. I’ve still got a bunch of beads from a long time ago that need to be used up. So that’s telling you this is not the last pattern I will use beads on.

This purse is pretty simple to make and you really can use any yarn of choice. All you need are two panels and handles. The additionals are lining and zipper (and beads if you want).

The pattern of this purse is also similar to the Chunky T-shirt Tote – a beautifully textured, super fast bag.

The increases on this purse are done a little differently from the norm. Some rows are done in the regular way most patterns do increases in rounds, while others are tweaked. It is done this way so that the purse would shapen evenly on both sides.

Row 17: SC across.  DO NOT SNIP YARN. continue as below

Purse handle hole

Fold the handle so the last row aligns with the first row, slip stitch closed (you will be slip stitching from the bottom of the first row of stitches, not actually above it). It is not necessary to use a contrast colour.

Row 1: Chain 1 (counts as a stitch) SC across in 32 sts (1 SC per stitch), chain 1, join to 1st SC. Turn, chain 1

Row 2: SC in 1st chain, SC 32 across, SC in last chain. Turn, chain 1- 34

Rows 3-6: SC across

Joining

After making the second body, snip yarn. Align both bodies together with the wrong side facing out, slip stitch closed.

Lining

Cut out fabric with 1 inch gap at the sides. Your fabric should be folded and have a closed bottom. The height of the lining should be same as the purse.

– Sew the sides closed,

– with purse facing wrong side, insert into the lining,

– fold lining to be below the joining line for the purse handle, hold it down with some pins and sew.

Zipper

This should be sewn a little above the joining line for the purse handles.

While sewing the zipper on, be careful not to sew the hole for the handles closed.

Your sewing may not be perfect (mine was not, I admit to trying twice), but try to make sure the zipper is well aligned inside the purse.

Purse Handles- make 2

Chain 185, skip 1st chain, slip stitch in back loop across. turn, do not chain 1, slip stitch in front loop across.

Pass handles through the hole, join, snip yarn weave in tails. Pull the handle so the joined parts are inside the hole.

Adding Fringes and Beads

The strings measures 7 inches before folding. You need around 68-70 strings to go round. The strings do not have to be all equal length.

Then string the beads in sets of three or four randomly, tie the bottom of the string twice and that’s it.
