I love embellishments on a fabric. Before we go into the pattern for this Beaded Mini Crochet Drawstring pouch, I’ll tell you a brief story; some of which is already on the ‘About’ page.

Long before I picked up crocheting again in my adult life, I worked with beads a lot. I used to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I had a fascination with beads. But as a creative person with no focus, I did not pursue it for long.

Nevertheless, I was/am still fascniated and drawn to bead works, wire works, if you will. And bead crochet has been on my mind the past two years now- I hope to someday try my hands at that.

Recently my crafter colleague, bbisharaliving, who makes beaded accessories asked if I could design a pouch she could use for customers. She wanted something simple that could be completed in little to no time.

My imagination took wing and I brought out some of the beads I have had in my closet for a long while. I did say she wanted something simple, but the moment I strung the beads, I knew this was not going to be such a simple looking pouch.

So from all indication, I will be making another pouch for her. And I promise to keep it real simple this time, and maybe a little plain? We’ll see!

This pouch is elegant. A pretty piece that is great for keeping your precious little jewelries and even as a keepsake. If I received a pouch like this as a gift, I would never throw it out, and if I give it away it will have to be to someone very special to me.

This pouch is worked in the round. Also, I use the same method as in the Super Quick & Chunky Crochet Headband for Round 1. You may need to take a look at it to understand how to work the first round with a foundation stitch. If you have never tried the foundation single crochet stitch, please see the tutorial here.

How to String the Beads

depending on the size of beads you are using, you may need to first string a thread through an appropriate sized needle, then pass the yarn through the loop of the thread.

Inserting the bead in the stitch

when you ‘drop’ the bead, you will be making a Single Crochet in the stitch. So, as seen in the photo, yarn under (not over), go into stitch and pull the yarn through (over the bead). With two loops now on hook, finish the stitch.

Finished Size:

3.5″ wide by 4″tall

You’ll need:

  • Mercerised cotton, Fingering weight (1) yarn or any yarn of choice
  • Seed beads (72). Something like this or this. Of course, if you use a bigger yarn weight, you’ll need to use bigger beads that can string on to the yarn with ease.
  • 3mm hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Stitches/Abbreviation:

SC- single crochet

DC- double crochet

DTR- double treble crochet

CH- chain

ST- stitch

FSC- foundation single crochet

How to to the Double Treble Crochet- DTR

Yarn over three times, insert hook in stitch, yarn over and pull out a loop- 5 loops now on hook. (*Yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 4 times.

Notes:

  • Chain 1 and 2 do not count as stitches. So start your rounds in same stitch as where you join.
  • This pattern is worked in the round.
  • Rounds 1-6 are worked in spiral round, so always place stitch marker in last stitch of round
  • This instruction, SC in 5, bead, SC simply means SC in 5 stitches, drop bead in next stitch, SC in next stitch

Tip: When making the 2nd set of the DTR/TRTR, turn the position of your work so that the bottom pouch is facing away from you. You will find it easier to make the stitch this way.
